A Summer State of Mind

Summer always brings us back to those carefree childhood days, when the only thing that mattered was finding someone to play with. As Marty Rubin beautifully said, 'Every summer, like roses, childhood returns.' It's a season that reminds us of simpler times, when worries were distant, and joy was found in the smallest moments. In this edition of Tezo Express, we celebrate that same spirit of freedom and happiness, reminding us how we can carry that childlike wonder into our busy lives today.

In this special summer edition, we not only revisit the warmth of those golden days but also share some refreshing summer tips to help you carry that same carefree energy into your daily routine. Inside, you'll discover heartfelt stories about childhood summer vacation stories that remind us all how the most treasured memories are often made in the simplest, most unexpected moments.

The Road Less Travelled Planned

If I could sit down with my younger self, studying BTech, in a field far from where life would eventually lead me, trying to find a place in a new country like Canada. I'd probably just smile and say: "You wouldn't believe where you're headed." The detours, the setbacks and every hard-earned lesson became a stepping stone I wouldn't trade for anything.

Right after graduation, one thing became clear: I've always had a knack for understanding people. Whether it was listening, guiding, or offering solutions, it just felt natural. That realization paved my path into sales. Over the last 11 years, I've grown from field roles to leadership, across different industries and even countries. The road wasn't always smooth, but every challenge sharpened my skills and strengthened my passion for what I do.

Outside of work, my passion for psychology fuels my curiosity about people. Books — fiction or non-fiction, remain my favourite way to learn and reflect.

I live by Richard Branson's words: "Your employee is your greatest asset. Treat them well and they'll treat your customers well." I focus on supporting my team mentally and technically, that's the north star I follow: to become the best leader I can possibly be.

In the summer of 2015, I swapped the heat of Hyderabad 's Deccan plateau for the cool embrace of Jammu and Kashmir, and it was pure magic. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, the region welcomed us with postcard-perfect views and a serenity that words can barely capture. I traveled with my family, and every moment felt like a scene from a dream: snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and air so fresh it lingered in memory. Coming from a place where summers mean moderate warmth, this chilly escape was a rare delight. We clicked countless pictures, but nothing matched the joy of soaking in that beauty in real time. The highlight was standing before India 's highest mountains, feeling both small and infinite. That summer wasn 't just a vacation; it was a memory etched in wonder, laughter, and breathtaking views.

During my summer vacation, I was full of energy from swimming and tennis. After a fun morning, I'd ride my gear cycle, a gift from my dad, through our cozy Chandigarh neighborhood. One day, I passed a dhaba with a crowd waiting for paneer parathas. Though I wasn't allowed to eat outside food, something about the moment made me take a chance and order one. It arrived golden and crisp, served with achaar, butter, and chilled curd. That first bite was rich, tangy, and creamy, wrapped in childhood rebellion.

At home, when Mom called me for lunch, I shyly confessed to Mom that I'd already eaten outside. When I told her it was paneer paratha, she smiled and said, "Next time, eat at home. I 'll make it for you." The very next morning, she recreated the whole experience, and just like that, we had a new family breakfast ritual. That day became a core memory, one that still makes me smile.

The summer I spent at my grandma 's place in Kerala remains etched in my heart as the most memorable one. Those days were simple yet filled with small joys, the kind only childhood knows. My sister and I would wait eagerly for the faint sound of the ice cream vendor 's bell echoing through the narrow lanes, and the moment we heard it, we 'd race barefoot behind the cart, giggling all the way.

Life there moved slowly, wrapped in the comfort of home-cooked meals, shaded afternoons, and the quiet companionship of our dogs at my grandparents' house. That summer wasn't just about the heat or the holidays. It was about living freely, without a care, surrounded by the warmth of family and the simple pleasures that still make me smile whenever I look back.

Every summer of my childhood led us to the pond behind our temple, cool, green, and alive with tiny fish darting below the surface. It was our escape from the heat, a place of laughter, dives, and races. One afternoon, my younger cousin, still learning to swim, wanted to try a dive. I promised I'd be nearby, ready to help. But the moment he hit the water, panic took over, and so did he. Grabbing my head, he pushed me under. I thrashed, lungs screaming, the world above a blur. Time warped. Seconds felt like hours. Just as the silence grew deafening, his mother yanked us out. We were safe, shaken, soaked… and later, hysterical with laughter.

It was terrifying then, but it turned that summer into one of the most unforgettable chapters of my childhood.

Before WiFi and Netflix:

A Summer Worth Remembering!

The hot air breeze, bright skies, every time summer rolls in, my heart whispers: "Take me back." Back to when the only countdown was for summer break.

No SPF worries, no alarms. You'd wake up thinking, "Which game are we playing today?" Not ugh, another day like we do now.

Me and my brother saving pocket change for ice popsicles, mango juice dripping down our elbows, watermelons on the terrace, ice apples from street vendors, coconuts on the way home. The house smelled of fryums and mango pickle. Cartoon Network and Pogo decided our plans.

Even power cuts were fun. The neighborhood turned dark into hide-and-seek, elders waiting for the “light aa gaya” buzz. Before air-conditioners, the desert cooler ruled, khus-scented air, pure bliss.

Cousins filling the house, or long train rides to native places, where fans spun at full speed but lost the heat battle, and the classic warning echoed: “Bahaar mat jao, garmi lagegi.” Evening galli cricket came with its own drama. One umpire, one kid threatening to take their bat home, lost cricket balls on rooftops, temper tantrums

Before WiFi and Netflix, summers felt like a gentle pause from the world. A little slower, a little simpler, but infinitely richer.

As we hustle through the digital age, let these cherished memories remind us that some of life's greatest joys are found in the people around us, not in our notifications.
